Single Family Housing

Initiative for Affordable Housing provides single-family housing and services for homeless families in its program to help participants work toward independence and for some, home ownership.

Houses have been acquired over the years through donations, HUD and other sources. They have all needed work and the improvements have helped the neighborhoods, the families and the community. Volunteers from churches, employee groups, companies and youth organizations have helped with renovations to help prepare each house to become a home for its next family.

Each family has the option of buying their totally rehabilitated house after a few years through a lease/purchase arrangement and then conventional mortgage.

Supportive social services are provided along with housing to address the issues that contributed to the family's homelessness.

These are just a few of the single-family properties owned by Initiative for Affordable Housing. Homeless families who participate in Initiative's combination of housing and supportive services program live in one of close to 30 such homes until they are ready to either purchase the house from Initiative, purchase another house or move to a permanent rental.
